Sennet was composed in January 2018 for the Westchester Symphonic Winds in Tarrytown, New York (Curt Ebersole, Director), on the occasion of their 30th Anniversary Season. The sennet has its historical roots in Elizabethan drama, where brass instruments (usually trumpets) would herald the entrance of a character or group of characters to the stage. It seemed to me fitting, in light of the celebratory nature of the WSW’s 30th season – much of which has been spent at the wonderful Tarrytown Music Hall – to create a modern version of this Renaissance-era musical device for full wind band.
